OMAHA, Neb. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (13-7) dropped a 7-4 decision in the series finale to Creighton (14-3) Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco gained an early 1-0 advantage in the opening frame, showing discipline at the plate to work four straight walks. With the bases loaded and two outs, Mattie Thomas picked up the RBI, scoring Kody Watanabe on a seven-pitch walk.
- Creighton responded in the bottom of the first inning, evening the score at one on a Nolan Sailors RBI double to right-center field.
- The Bluejays took their first lead in the following frame, scoring two runs to take a 3-1 advantage. With two on and no outs, Ben North reached on a Michael Campagna throwing error at first base to plate Will MacLean. Hogan Helligso tagged to score the Bluejays' third run on a shallow pop out in center field.
- The Dons showed resiliency in the fifth inning, scoring two runs to even the score at three. The green and gold quickly put runners in scoring position after Logan Leax and Patrick Keighran reached on a walk and a double down the left-field line in back-to-back at-bats. Leax scored to cut the deficit to one on a wild pitch, and TJ Rogers tied the game with an RBI double to right field later in the frame.
- Creighton regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Colby Canales solo home run followed by a three-run seventh to put the Bluejays up 7-3.
- San Francisco scored a run in the top of the ninth to get within three, 7-4, on a Matty Fung RBI groundout to first base.
- With the bases loaded and two outs in the final frame, Leax grounded out to third, solidifying the victory for Creighton.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Rogers led the Dons in base hits, totaling three for the second consecutive game while adding one RBI, one walk, and scored a run.
- Keighran posted his first multi-hit game of the season, going two-for-three at the plate with two walks and scored one run.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to the Bay at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 19, when it hosts California at Benedetti Diamond.
