STANFORD/HAYWARD, Calif. – Battling through tough weather conditions, the University of San Francisco men's and women's track & field team put together solid performances at the Mike Fanelli Classic and Stanford Invitational on Friday, Mar. 29, and Saturday, Mar. 30.
Despite the adversity with the weather, multiple team members set personal bests throughout the weekend. At Stanford,
Ed Buck ran a stellar race and broke the 29-minute barrier in the 10000 meters, finishing in 17th place out of 41 competitors with a personal best time of 28:58.37.
Jacob Cann also competed on the men's side, nearly breaking his personal best in the 5000 meters while grabbing eighth place at 13:53.52.
Olivia Alexandre reached new heights in the 800 meters, setting a personal best while finishing second in her section. Surpassing her previous best by just under three seconds set at the Portland Twilight last season, Alexandre crossed the finish line at 2:06.05.
In the field events at the Stanford Invitational,
Lilly Gerhard set the program record in the javelin throw at 44.61 meters and earned a ninth-place finish.
In the Mike Fanelli Classic, the Dons performed well in the 5,000 meters as
Mathilde Valadier and
Danny Skovron led the team. Guiding the women, Valadier finished in 31st with a time of 17:13.0, while Skovron set a personal best at 14:59.27 and finished in 87th on the men's side.
Ellis McKean and
Daniel Abramowicz competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with McKean leading the way in 10th with a time of 9:14.99 while Abramowicz earned a new personal best at 9:33.71 and finishing in 25th.
