Dons Drop Series Opener Against Tigers in High-Scoring Affair

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Beginning the first conference series on the Hilltop in two weeks, the University of San Francisco baseball team (17-25, 1-12 WCC) dropped the series opener to Pacific (8-33, 3-10 WCC), falling 12-7 in a high-scoring affair at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • Pacific wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the first inning on a double by Gabe Camacho and a sacrifice fly from Chase Graves to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • Quickly fighting back, the Dons put on two runs in the bottom of the first. A double from Matty Fung and singles from Logan Leax and Zack Ramppen narrowed the deficit to 3-2 following the first frame.
  • Early in the second, the Tigers loaded the bases with one out from two walks and an error by the Dons. Tony Otis singled into center field to bring Drake Bicknell home to score, putting the score at 4-2. With the bases remaining loaded, Jake Tandy homered over the left-field wall for a grand slam to blow the game open, 8-2.
  • The Dons refused to quit, continuing their scoring in the bottom of the second. Charles-Etienne Pelletier doubled down the left field line in the first at-bat of the second frame and reached home off a Fung ground out to narrow the deficit to 8-3.
  • Singles from Myles Kallinger and Kody Watanabe and a walk for Michael Campagna loaded the bases for the green and gold. Leax's second single of the game brought Kallinger home, and a sacrifice fly from Patrick Keighran brought Watanabe home, setting the count to 8-5 following two innings of play.
  • Following a three-up and three-down third inning for both squads, San Francisco continued to narrow the gap in the fourth inning, as a Keighran infield single brought home Kallinger and Watanabe, cutting the deficit to one run, 8-7.
  • In the top of the fifth, Pacific added to its lead, as singles from Tandy, Graves, and Andre Vidal resulted in two runs scored for the Tigers, pushing their advantage back up to three runs, 10-7.
  • San Francisco failed to put another run on the board in the final five innings, ultimately falling to Pacific 12-7.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • With a team-high three runs today, Watanabe is now tied with Campagna to lead the team in total runs this season, posting 26 runs apiece.
  • Leading the squad in RBIs, Patrick Keighran batted in a season-high three runs this afternoon while going two-for-four at the plate.
