LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Kicking off the final WCC series of the season, the University of San Francisco (20-33, 3-19 WCC) dropped the series opener at LMU (23-29, 8-14 WCC), falling 6-1 Thursday evening at Page Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- LMU gained an early advantage in the second inning, taking a 2-0 lead on a Robbie Ayers two-run home run over the left-field wall.
- The Lions extended their advantage in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four runs to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
- San Francisco began to rally in the top of the ninth when Kody Watanabe reached on a leadoff hit by pitch. After two straight strikeouts, Logan Leax reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, Diego Baquerio, as Watanabe rounded the bases to record the Dons' first run.
- The Lions shut down the rally shortly, striking out Logan Azem to end the contest.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Watanabe reached base three times throughout the game, recording a single, a walk, and a hit by pitch while scoring the Dons' lone run.
- Logan Schweizer and Leax also recorded base hits for the green and gold to round out the offense.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 17 when it continues its series against LMU at Page Stadium.
