SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's soccer team (0-0-1) earned a hard-fought scoreless tie against Cal Poly (0-0-1) in the 2024 season opener Thursday evening at Negoesco Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- In a physical contest, Cal Poly came out aggressively and put pressure on the San Francisco defense early in the game. The Mustangs earned two early corners at 2:58 and 3:36 that were fended off by the Dons, keeping the game scoreless.
- The Dons accumulated four shots throughout the first half, with Brayden Beason, Chris Maldonado, Kian Jones, and Olivier Sylvain having opportunities to give the Dons an advantage.
- At 5:37, the green and gold had a clear scoring opportunity following a Gabriel Bracken Serra corner, as Beason's shot in the penalty area was blocked.
- The two teams continued to trade blows throughout the second half as neither side could find the breakthrough. In the final minutes of the match, Isaiah Easley posted back-to-back shots that were blocked by the Mustang defense in the 88th minute as the game ended in a stalemate.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Easley led San Francisco with two shots while Zane Alafranji posted the Dons' lone shot on goal.
- In goal, Eric Waltz totaled four saves to help contribute to the Dons' defensive efforts.
