PORTLAND, Ore. - The University of San Francisco volleyball team (1-0) earned a win in the season opener, defeating Portland State (0-1) 3-0 Friday evening in the Rose City Showdown at Viking Pavilion.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Starting strong, Aylen Ayub recorded the match's first point as the Dons quickly got the advantage. The team followed with a seven-point run to put the Dons up 10-2.
- Holding their lead until the end of the first frame, a kill from Maria Petkova and a Portland State attack error gave San Francisco a 25-13 first-set win.
- Delaney Ewing recorded the first kill of the second set as the Dons continued to dominate with a 7-0 run, with Astrid Puig getting two kills and a block assist to help earn the early lead.Â
- Leading the second set, 22-18, Petkova secured the match by scoring the Dons' final points with three kills for a final score of 25-20.
- Continuing momentum in the third set, San Francisco started with an 8-3 run from the leadoff kill by Petkova.
- The Dons extended their lead to 15-6 from a kill by Ewing, followed by a block assist with Puig and Ewing, and an ace by Ayub.
- Shutting the door on the Vikings with back-to-back kills by Puig and Michalina Rola, San Francisco won the third set 25-19 to earn their first win of the season.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Petkova led both teams in total kills with 13 and 14 points overall in her first outing of the season.
- Hayden Goodman led the team defensively with six block assists, tallying eight points from four kills.
- Ayub carried the team in assists recording 28 and two service aces.
- Rola showed out in her debut as a Don with 10 kills, seven digs, two blocks, and one serving ace.Â

San Francisco returns to action at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, when it takes on California and Nevada in the Rose City Showdown at Viking Pavilion.
