SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference officially announced the 2024-25 women's basketball conference schedules for the eleven participating institutions on Tuesday morning.
"As always it should be an incredibly competitive WCC season," Head Coach Molly Goodenbour said. "The addition of Washington State and Oregon State brings even more depth to an formidable conference. We are excited for the opportunity to rise up and meet the challenge."
The University of San Francisco women's basketball team is scheduled to compete in 20 games during the three-month WCC slate, with 10 played at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. San Francisco finished the 2023-24 regular season on a high note, ending the campaign with double-digit conference victories for the third time in the last four seasons, placing the Dons in a tie for third place in the league standings with a 10-6 record.
The Dons return 12 student-athletes from last season's roster, including Debora dos Santos, who ranked first in the conference in rebounding, fourth in scoring, and earned All-WCC First Team honors for the first time in her career.
Freja Werth, the reigning WCC Newcomer of the Year, also returns to the program for the upcoming campaign, as she averaged 9.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in 30 games in 2023-24.
Highlighted by its anticipated conference home opener on Thursday, Dec. 19, against perennial powerhouse Gonzaga, San Francisco is slated to take on multiple high-end opponents throughout the season, including Oregon State, Washington State, Santa Clara, and Portland, the defending West Coast Conference Tournament champions.
With the addition of Washington State and Oregon State to the WCC, the green and gold take on the former Pac-12 Conference affiliates a total of four times during the campaign. The Dons travel north to face off against the Beavers on Thursday, Jan. 9, in Corvallis before hosting the second matchup on Thursday, Jan. 23. Notably, the Dons take on the Cougars at home on Thursday, Jan. 16, followed by a road contest near the end of the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 20 in Pullman.
Earning a regular-season split a season ago, San Francisco battles back-to-back conference tournament champions Portland when it treks to the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, Jan. 11. The Dons defeated the Pilots on the road last season, posting a dominant 59-47 victory at Chiles Center. The two programs clash again on Thursday, Feb. 27, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
For the second consecutive season, San Francisco concludes conference action at home when it hosts San Diego on Saturday, Mar. 1.
