Dons Fall Late On The Road in Davis

DAVIS, Calif. - Completing their stretch of five straight road matches, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (0-5-2) battled UC Davis (4-1-1) to the brink on Sunday afternoon, but the Dons ultimately fell, 2-1, following a late goal from the Aggies.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Reid Roberts fired the first shot of the game at the 6:22 minute mark and quickly took another shot on frame just under two minutes later to force keeper Noah Schwengeler to make a save for the Aggies.
  • Going back and forth, the first half ended scoreless with the Aggies outshooting the Dons 7-5 as Eric Waltz made three saves in goal in the opening 45 minutes of action.
  • At the 46:16 mark, Brayden Beason registered the first shot of the second half for the green and gold. Responding with an attack of their own, Andrew Dutra of UC Davis went on to find the back of the net to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead at 52:46.
  • Battling to get back in the game, San Francisco earned the equalizer at the 70th minute as Brayden Beason netted his second goal of the season off a header by Gabriel Bracken Serra to even things up at 1-1.
  • Coming up clutch in the final twenty minutes of play, the Aggies came through in the closing moments of the match as Lucas Kim score with 43 seconds remaining in regulation to give UC Davis at 2-1. Making one final stand, the Aggies went on to secure the victory following the late strike.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • As a team, eight different Dons logged a shot in the match as San Francisco totaled ten shots overall, five of which came on frame.
  • Beason becomes the second Don to have more than one goal this season as the freshman matches Bracken-Serra, who assisted on the score, with two goals on the year.
  • Roberts, who mainly plays center back, has now logged seven shots on the year after he recorded two more against the Aggies on Sunday.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns home to Negoesco Stadium next Monday, September 23 as the Dons will host Bay Area rival San José State at 7:00 p.m. Live streaming and live statistics links are available via the team's schedule page.
