PORTLAND, Ore. - The University of San Francisco women's soccer team (2-7-3, 1-3-1 WCC) fought hard yet again on the road on Saturday night, but Portland (6-3-4, 3-1-1 WCC) ultimately used a second-half goal to outlast the Dons, 1-0, at Merlo Field.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco kept Portland off the scoreboard in the first half, with Lindsey Chau firing the first shot of the match for the Dons just 3:05 into regulation.
- The match remained scoreless at halftime after a hard-fought period from both sides. Portland grabbed the edge in shots across the opening half, 6-3.
- USF would tally three shots on goal in the second half, but all three were turned away by Pilot goalkeeper Sophia Hills. Violet Rademacher broke the scoring drought with a goal off a header at 58:49, which would prove to be the game-winning goal.
- Portland used the strength of this lone goal to hold off San Francisco for the rest of the match as the Pilots squeezed past the Dons, 1-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Chau had her way offensively on Saturday night as the forward finished with five shots, marking a new season-high. Four of these shots were on frame, also marking a new career-high.
- Kate Zimmerman logged her first shot since Sept. 27 vs. Saint Mary's, finishing with two against Portland.
- Tyra Bengtsson-Stenseth led USFÂ with five saves, the fifth time this season and the third consecutive match she has finished with five or more saves.
