Women's Basketball Drops Nonconference Decision to Colorado State

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (6-4) dropped a 69-52 nonconference decision to Colorado State (9-2) Saturday afternoon at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

Nataša Taušová paced San Francisco throughout the contest, scoring a career-best 14 points. Olivia Williams, Paula Tirado, and Sol Castro led the second unit, combining for 12 points off the bench.

The Dons outrebounded the Rams, totaling 39 boards, with Mara Neira leading the way with six and Taušová and Candy Edokpaigbe recording five apiece.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • After falling behind 5-3, San Francisco recorded five straight points to regain the lead, 8-5, highlighted by a long three-pointer from Aina Cargol. Continuing to battle on the defensive end, the Dons held a narrow 15-13 edge over the Rams at the end of the first quarter. The green and gold relied on long-distance shots during the opening 10 minutes, connecting on three from the three-point line.
  • Colorado State regained the lead at the start of the second quarter and cruised through to take a 27-24 advantage to the halftime break. Trailing 27-22, Edokpaigbe cut into the deficit with a driving layup with six seconds remaining on the clock.
  • The Rams outscored the Dons 30-17 in the third period, pushing the margin to double digits, 57-41, entering the final quarter of play.
  • Failing to cut into the deficit, San Francisco brought the game to within 15, 67-52, following a free throw from Sophia Priestley at the 1:38 mark of the fourth. Colorado State's Lexus Bargesser added two final free throws to conclude the scoring as the Rams pulled out the 69-52 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • San Francisco shared the ball well, recording an assist on 80 percent of made baskets.
  • The bench made an impact by adding 19 points to its scoring output.
  • The Dons cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 12 offensive boards in the game. Castro led the green and gold with a team-high three.
  • Taušová scored in double figures for the second time this season, posting 14 to lead the team.
