SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Highlighted by
Jordan Lewis' career game, the University of San Francisco baseball team (2-1) defeated Sacramento State, 15-7, Sunday afternoon at John Smith Field.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Following a scoreless first inning, Tyler Harries gave San Francisco the lead in the top of the second inning with a solo home run over the left-field wall. The Dons' early 1-0 edge marked the third straight game the program scored the first run of the game.
- Sacramento State responded in the bottom half of the second, scoring three runs to jump ahead, 3-1. Michael Perazzo and Luis Pimental-Guerrero collected base hits during the inning, while a Don fielding error aided the Hornets' rally.
- Regaining the lead in the third inning, Matty Fung, Kenny DeCelle, and Lewis led off the inning with a walk, double, and hit-by-pitch. With the bases loaded, TJ Rogers found the left-center field gap for a three-RBI double to put the green and gold up 4-3.
- Adding to their advantage in the fourth and fifth innings, Brendan Burke hit his first career home run, and Kody Watanabe notched an RBI single to extend the Dons' lead to 6-3.
- With a runner aboard in the top of the sixth, Lewis crushed a two-run blast to left field for his second career home run, first as a Don, for an 8-5 advantage.
- Holding an 8-6 lead in the top of the seventh, Lewis continued his dominance and recorded a bases-loaded double to break the game open for San Francisco, 11-6. Later on, Matteo Bellisimo added a two-RBI single, extending the margin to 13-6.
- After Sacramento State trimmed its deficit to 13-7, two more runs for San Francisco solidified the 15-7 road victory. Lewis again came through with a clutch base hit with runners on base, a single to left field, scoring DeCelle and Tyvon Moore.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- As a team, San Francisco totaled three home runs, led by Lewis, Burke, and Harries. The long ball total marked the sixth time in the last three seasons the Dons have hit three home runs in a game.
- Lewis led San Francisco offensively, recording a season-high three hits in five at-bats for a .600 batting average while collecting a career-best five RBI.
- Along with Lewis, five other players totaled multi-hit games, with DeCelle (two hits), Harries (two hits), Watanabe (two hits), Burke (two hits), and Patrick Keighran (two hits) contributing to the offensive performance.
