DONS AT A GLANCE:
- San Francisco enters the final week of the regular season in sole possession of fifth place in the WCC standings. The Dons split their final two road games last week, falling to Washington State by a narrow 67-59 margin last Thursday before defeating Gonzaga 70-68 in Spokane on Saturday. The win over the Bulldogs marked the first time the green and gold have won a game at the McCarthy Athletic Center since 2006 while sweeping the Zags in a single season for the first time since 2002.
- Despite the loss at Washington State, Luana Leite delivered a standout performance, posting a season-high 19 points on an efficient 54.5 percent shooting from the field. The Dons also shot 81.0 percent from the free throw line as Leite, Mia Vukšic, Elle Papahronis, and Cami Fulcher combined for a perfect 11-of-11.
- The team made history with a 70-68 victory over Gonzaga on Saturday at the McCarthy Athletic Center, completing a season sweep against the Bulldogs for the first time in 23 years and snapping their 14-game win streak. Offensively, Freja Werth led the charge with 19 points, Fulcher with 13, and Angeliki Ziaka with 12. Werth remains a top scorer in the WCC, ranking fifth with an average of 16.0 points per game.
- For the second time this season, Ziaka was named the Heluva Good Dip West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week. In the win over Gonzaga, her 12 points included a clutch three-pointer to secure the victory. Additionally, she grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists, and recorded two steals. For the week, she averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
- San Francisco seeks two home victories to cap off the regular season, with Saturday afternoon's matchup against the San Diego serving as Senior Day. Before the game, eight student-athletes will be honored for their time on the Hilltop.
SCOUTING THE PILOTS:
- The Pilots hold a share of the top spot in the WCC standings following two wins over San Diego and Santa Clara last week. The Pilots, the best offensive team in the conference, rank first in both points per game (77.8) and field goal percentage (45.5).
- The Pilots secured a comeback win against the Broncos on Saturday at the Chiles Center, rallying from a 12-point deficit to win 73-66. Alexis Mark played a key role, posting a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds while surpassing 1,500 career points. This marked her sixth double-double on the season, the most by a Pilot since the 2021-22 season.
- Mark was also named WCC Player of the Week and WSBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week, becoming the first Pilot to earn a national player of the week honor. She's averaging 11.5 points, seven rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two steals per game for the season.
- The Pilots have made history this season with 15 home wins, the most in program history. Additionally, their 15 wins in conference play are tied for the most they've had in a season.
- With 26 wins, Portland has recorded their most wins out of 29 games in a season since the 1996-97 season.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
- San Diego has struggled this season, dropping the last two games to Portland and Oregon State to remain at the bottom of the WCC standings at 2-16.
- Truitt Reilly had a strong performance against Oregon State, finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds. Two other Toreros also reached double figures, with Kylie Horstmeyer scoring 12 points and Ava Ranson adding 11.
- The Toreros wrap up their home schedule with a matchup against LMU on Thursday before traveling to the Hilltop to face the Dons.
SERIES HISTORY:
- San Francisco and Portland will face off for the 81st time in program history, with the Pilots holding a slight edge in the all-time series at 41-39. The two teams last met on January 11, when the Dons fell 74-60 at Chiles Center.
- Saturday night marks the 84th meeting between San Francisco and San Diego, with the Dons leading the series 47-36. The Dons won their last matchup on January 25 with a 63-56 victory on the road and will look to complete the season sweep to end the regular season.
