RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In its first-ever game at James W. Totman Stadium, the University of San Francisco baseball team (8-9) dropped an 11-1 non-conference decision to California Baptist (8-9) in a shortened seven-inning affair Tuesday evening.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- California Baptist struck first in the second and third innings, opening a commanding 6-0 lead, highlighted by a Kenny Winters grand slam in a five-run third frame.
- Kenny DeCelle put San Francisco on the board in the top of the fifth, recording a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Trevor Harmon to trim the deficit to 6-1. Harmon kicked off the inning, reaching base following an error by the left fielder Bubba Rocha. Harmon quickly made it to third on a single by Brendan Burke and later scored on DeCelle's fly ball to deep center field.
- The Lancers added five more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, as Trevor Spainhoward scored the game-winning run to solidify the 11-1 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- San Francisco totaled seven baserunners throughout the contest as Burke and Kody Watanabe recorded the program's lone two hits. Eddison Esquivel, TJ Rogers, and Matty Fung also reached base, combined for two walks and three hit-by-pitches.
