SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (10-11) concluded its final non-conference series on Sunday, falling to Creighton (10-5) 7-1 in the series-finale at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Following three scoreless innings, Creighton broke the deadlock in the top of the fourth inning, recording four runs to take a 4-0 advantage. Totaling only one earned run, the Blue Jays were guided by a TJ Rogers throwing error and a fielder's choice as Kyle Hess beat out a groundball to first base.
- San Francisco scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, cutting its deficit to 4-1 when Eddison Esquivel scored on a Kenny DeCelle RBI groundout. Earning a walk to begin the frame, Esquivel quickly circled the basepath following a walk to Brendan Burke and a Matty Fung sacrifice bunt. He later tallied the Dons' first run as DeCelle swung at the first pitch, grounding out the shortstop Ben North.
- Adding to their lead in the later innings, the Blue Jays totaled three runs in the final three frames to break open the contest, 7-1.
- The Dons rallied in the bottom half of the ninth, putting two runners on base with no outs after Esquivel worked a seven-pitch walk and Burke reached on an error. Creighton, however, recorded three straight outs to solidify the victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Rogers, Esquivel, and Kody Watanabe combined for San Francisco three hits throughout the contest. Watanabe recorded the Dons' lone extra-base hit, a double to left field in the first inning.
- Aidan Risse pitched a solid five innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits and two walks and striking out a season-high six batters.
- Austin Cupic and Kolby Calia allowed two baserunners in a combined three innings pitched out of the bullpen while recording two strikeouts.
