OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –
TJ Rogers, senior shortstop for the University of San Francisco baseball program, has been named to the 2025 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, announced by the College Baseball Foundation Friday morning.
"This is a well-deserved honor for TJ," Head Coach
Rob DiToma said. "He has worked extremely hard to become the well-rounded shortstop. He has been a pleasure to coach and is an incredible teammate."
The Brooks Wallace Award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. The award is named after Brooks Wallace, a former standout for the Texas Tech baseball program from 1977 to 1980. He was later drafted by the New York Mets and Texas Rangers in the 1979 and 1980 MLB Drafts. Wallace died of leukemia in 1985 at the age of 27.
Led by several players with outstanding offensive numbers, the award reflects more than just offense, as numerous student-athletes have accumulated tremendous defensive numbers this season.
Registering impressive numbers in his final season on the Hilltop, Rogers leads all qualified batters with a .315 batting average while accumulating a team-leading 40 hits, 10 doubles, 31 RBI, 22 walks, and 12 stolen bases. Appearing and starting in 36 games for the Dons this season, Rogers has totaled 10 multi-hit performances, highlighted a career-high four in the 11-8, 10-inning victory at Nevada on April 14. He also began the campaign on an 11-game hit streak, the longest of his career, and recorded a .386 batting average in the season's first month.
Establishing himself as one of the best defensive players in the West Coast Conference, the Sparks, Nev. native has recorded a near-perfect .962 fielding percentage with 36 putouts, 90 assists, and only five errors from the shortstop position. Rogers also ranks second in the WCC in assists and fourth in fielding double plays with 22.
