SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Capping off an incredible first collegiate season on the Hilltop,
Eddison Esquivel has been named Rawlings West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time, announced by the league Monday afternoon.
Leading San Francisco to five straight wins to end the regular season, including a series sweep of Utah Valley, Esquivel accumulated a .636 batting average, a 1.273 slugging percentage, one double, two home runs, four RBI, and four runs scored.
Beginning the series with a three-for-four performance on Wednesday, May 14, Esquivel recorded two RBI and scored twice. He followed with home runs in back-to-back games, two RBI, and scored twice on Thursday and Friday to guide the Dons to the series sweep of the Wolverines.
Concluding the regular season on a high note, Esquivel totaled six multi-hit performances in the final eight contests and batted .438 with 14 hits in 32 at-bats, two doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI, and scored seven runs. Overall, he ranks second on the team with a .319 batting average, second among all freshmen in the WCC. His 47 RBI is second on the team and ninth in the WCC, while his team-leading 12 home runs rank eighth best in the conference.
This weekly award marks San Francisco's fifth honor for the program this season, with Esquivel leading all players with three Freshman of the Week honors.
