LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Concluding the 2025 season in the opening round of the West Coast Conference Tournament, the University of San Francisco baseball team (26-30) dropped a 9-4 decision to Saint Mary's (32-23) Wednesday afternoon at the Las Vegas Ballpark.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Gaining momentum in the opening inning, TJ Rogers put San Francisco on top with a two-run home run for an early 2-0 lead. Kody Watanabe earned a leadoff walk and later scored on the Rogers blast.
- Tanner Griffith answered for Saint Mary's in the bottom half of the second inning, recording a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 2-1.
- The Dons added to their advantage in the following frame as Eddison Esquivel hit a long sacrifice fly to center field, plating Kenny DeCelle to push the lead to 3-1.
- Battling back, Saint Mary's scored a run to bring the game to within one, 3-2 after three complete innings.
- Following two scoreless frames, the Gaels scored seven unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 9-3 lead.
- Matteo Bellissimo recorded a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the ninth inning, scoring JT Amaral to bring the Dons to within 9-4. The Gaels, however, recorded the final out on a groundball to second, solidifying the victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Rogers led the program with a one-for-three day at the plate, with a home run, two RBI, and scored a run.
- Watanabe recorded the Dons' other extra-base hit, with a triple in the seventh inning.
- Amaral, Bellisimo, and Jordan Lewis also recorded hits throughout the contest.
- Earning his 10th start in 19 appearances on the mound this season, Gabriel Barrett pitched five stellar innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four batters.
