BERKELEY, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (0-2) dropped a 3-0 straight-set non-conference decision to California (2-0) to conclude the California Tournament Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco and California battled in the opening frame as the Golden Bears recorded a 29-27 first-set win to begin the contest. The set featured six lead changes and was tied 18 times. As a team in the opening frame, the green and gold posted 15 kills on 39 attempts.
- Falling into a 2-0 hole in the match, the Dons dropped a 25-16 decision in the second set. The Golden Bears scored the first four points in the frame for a commanding 4-0 lead and never looked back as the green and gold fought from behind the entire way.
- Trailing 17-8, a Hannah Taylor kill, a Hokulani Perez service ace, and two California block errors trimmed the deficit to 17-12.
- San Francisco failed to get within striking distance in the back half of the set as California scored on seven of the final 10 points to secure the frame.
- The Golden Bears finished the sweep with a 25-16 third-set victory. San Francisco trailed by as many as 10 points as the opposition grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- For the second straight match, Taylor led the program in kills with eight on 25 attempts.
- Abby Wadas led the back line, recording 20 of the Dons' 43 digs.
- Andrea Fabikovicová had a solid performance at the setter position, totaling 16 assists and a team-high one service ace.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to the Hilltop at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, when it hosts Portland State in the Battle By The Bay at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
