San Francisco Treks North, Begins Road Trip at Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. – Following a week off from competition, the University of San Francisco women's basketball team (10-6, 3-2) begins a two-game road trip, starting at Gonzaga (12-6, 4-1) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at the McCarthy Athletic Center.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • San Francisco is coming off a hard-fought 77-67 loss to Santa Clara last Thursday at home,
    snapping the team's three-game winning streak.
  • Candy Edokpaigbe led the Dons with 19 points on an efficient 61.5 percent (eight-for-16) shooting. Edokpaigbe's shooting performance marked the seventh time (third straight) she has shot over 60 percent in a game this season.
  • At the start of West Coast Conference action, Edokpaigbe ranks eighth in points per game at 15.8 while shooting 51.9 percent from the field. She is also third among the top-10 scorers in the WCC with the fewest three-pointers made (two) in the first five games.
  • Aina Cargol scored in double figures for the third consecutive contest as she recorded 17 points and dished out seven assists in 29 minutes. In five WCC games, Cargol ranks 13th in the conference, averaging 14.0 points per game. She also continues to lead all freshmen during league play in total assists (28) and assists per game (5.6).
  • Noelia Mouriño continued her solid rebounding start to conference play, grabbing 11 in the loss to Santa Clara. Mouriño has grabbed five or more rebounds in four of the five WCC games and leads the team and ranks tied for fifth in the conference, averaging 7.0 boards per game. 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • Freshman forward Lauren Whittaker has dominated during the 2025-26 season, averaging 19.6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game while shooting at a 56.6 percent clip through 18 games. Whittaker has scored at least 20 points in nine games and has reached double figures in scoring 17 times. Her 179 rebounds rank third among freshmen in the nation and 15th overall as of January 14. Whittaker's 353 total points scored rank first in the West Coast Conference and are second among freshmen in the nation.
  • As of January 14, Gonzaga ranks fourth in Division I and first in the WCC in three-point percentage at 39.6 percent. Individually, Allie Turner leads the Zags in made threes this season with 48 and ranks 19th nationally. Turner was recently named to the 2026 Becky Hammon Player of the Year Preseason Watch List. She was one of 25 players in the country to make the list.
  • As a team, Gonzaga leads the WCC and is 13th in the nation in rebounding margin at +11.1. The Bulldogs have two players with at least 100 total rebounds so far this season (Lauren Whittaker - 179, and Jaiden Haile - 105), and have three players averaging at least four boards per game, led by Whittaker's 9.9.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Gonzaga holds a commanding 55-28 advantage over San Francisco in the all-time series dating back to the 1987-88 season.
  • Despite the struggles against Gonzaga, the green and gold won both    meetings during the 2024-25 season, outscoring the Bulldogs by an average of 8.5 points per game. The Dons dominated the Zags in the first meeting on December 19, 2024, in a 73-58 decision at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. Four players scored in double figures, with Emma Trawally Porta leading with a team-best 18 points.
  • In the second meeting, San Francisco erased a nine-point halftime deficit to earn a narrow 70-68 victory, the team's first win in Spokane since 2006.
