DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • San Francisco enters its eighth conference contest in sole possession of sixth place in the WCC standings following an 85-72 victory at Washington State last Saturday.
  • The green and gold had four players score in double-figures, led by Aina Cargol's game- and career-high 21 points. Noelia Mouriño recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Paula Tirado and Nataša Taušová added 15 and 13 points, respectively, to guide the offense.
  • Mouriño registered her first-career double-double as a collegiate basketball player with a 16-point, 12-rebound performance, becoming the program's first freshman to record a double-double since Ioanna Krimili (13 points and 11 assists) on December 22, 2020, at Sacramento State.
  • Tirado guided the second unit with a career-best 15 points in 27 minutes off the bench. Tirado shot an efficient 75 percent (six-of-eight) from the field and connected on two three-pointers.
  • As a team, San Francisco dominated the glass, outrebounding Washington State, 48-27. The Dons also collected 22 offensive rebounds, the most recorded by the team this season.
  • In seven WCC games, San Francisco has been one of the best overall teams, ranking fourth in scoring (71.0), third in field goal percentage (.434) and rebounding (37.7), and fifth in steals per game (8.9).
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
  • San Diego enters its matchup at San Francisco tied for last in the West Coast Conference standings with Seattle U at 1-6. The Toreros have lost six of their last seven games, including the 59-55 decision to the Dons on January 2 at Jenny Craig Pavilion. During its most recent five-game losing streak in WCC play, San Diego averaged 56.0 points per game and was outscored by 44 total points.
  • After breaking its five-game skid with a narrow 54-51 win against Pepperdine, San Diego dropped an 87-42 decision on the road at Gonzaga on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the McCarthy Athletic Center. The Toreros' 45-point margin marks the first time the program has lost by 40 or more points in over eight years.
  • Kyle Ray leads San Diego in multiple statistical categories through 20 games this season, including points (16.0), rebounds (5.5), assists (43), free-throw percentage (.911), and average minutes (30.5). Breaking out in WCC play, Ray is averaging 18.6 points per game, third-best in the conference, behind Oregon State's Jenna Villa (20.9) and Gonzaga's Lauren Whittaker (18.9).
SERIES HISTORY:
  • San Francisco and San Diego are set to meet for the 86th time in the history of the two programs. The Toreros, dominated in the late 2000s and early 2010s, hold a narrow 46-39 edge in the all-time series.
  • The Dons' recent success over the Toreros includes victories in seven of the last eight meetings, including four straight dating back to March 2, 2024.
  • In the last four contests, San Francisco has overpowered its competition, outscoring San Diego, 250-212, and is averaging 62.5 points per game while holding the Toreros to 53.0.
  • In the last meeting between the two programs on January 2 at Jenny Craig Pavilion, Candy Edokpaigbe scored a team-high 17 points, and San Francisco fended off a San Diego second-half comeback to earn a 59-55 victory.
