DONS AT A GLANCE:
- San Francisco enters Thursday's home contest on a three-game winning streak, including two road wins at San Diego and LMU. The Dons, opening league play at 3-1, have won at least three games in the first four games to start the WCC slate for the third straight season.
- Aina Cargol earned her second West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week honor after averaging 12.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game in wins over Portland, San Diego, and LMU last week.
- Recording back-to-back double-digit games, Cargol finished the week with a 17-point, eight-assist performance in an 85-82 overtime victory at LMU. Scoring 13 of her 17 points in the second half and overtime, Cargol connected on the game-tying three with 14 seconds left to send the contest into an extra period.
- San Francisco has four players scoring in double figures through the first four conference games, led by Candy Edokpaigbe, who is averaging 15.0 points per game. Cargol (13.3), Mara Neira (11.8), and Nataša Taušová (10.0) have also contributed offensively.
- Cargol is tied for third in the WCC in total assists at 21 and is tied for fourth in assists per game at 5.3 following her 20 total assists in three conference contests last week.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
- After dropping a disappointing 92-85 decision at home to LMU on Friday, Jan. 2, Santa Clara bounced back with a 77-73 victory over Gonzaga last Sunday. Dominating the entire contest, the Broncos took the lead with 3:33 remaining in the first quarter and then never trailed. Four players scored in double figures for Santa Clara, with Sophie Glancey and Kylee Fox leading with 17 apiece. The Broncos only shot 36.8 percent from the field, but knocked down 11 of their 33 attempts from beyond the three-point line.
- Sophie Glancey, a transfer forward from Northern Arizona, enters her first season at Santa Clara following three seasons with the Lumberjacks. In 16 games in 2025-26, she leads the team and ranks fifth in the WCC in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game. Glancey also leads the team and is fourth in the league in rebounding at 7.3 per game.
- As of January 7, Santa Clara is the WCC's top-ranked team according to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball NET Rankings. The Broncos are currently ranked 62nd out of 363 teams nationally and are the 10th highest-ranked mid-major program.
SERIES HISTORY:
- San Francisco and Santa Clara are set to meet for the 109th time, with the Broncos holding the 60-48 edge since the first-ever meeting in the 1976-77 season.
- Despite splitting the regular-season series in 2024-25, San Francisco has won seven of the last 11 meetings since the 2020-21 season.
- In the Dons' lone win over the Broncos last season, the green and gold jumped out to a 25-10 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 65-53 victory at Leavey Center on December 30, 2024.
