Rogers Homers in Second Straight Game as Dons Fall to Spartans

SAN JOSE, Calif. – TJ Rogers homered for the second straight game as the University of San Francisco baseball team (4-2) dropped a 7-3 nonconference decision at San Jose State (3-3) Saturday afternoon at Excite Ballpark.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • Trailing 3-0 early in the game, San Francisco plated two runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to trim the deficit to 3-2. Rogers connected on his second home run of the season, his second of the series, to put the Dons on the board in the fourth. Isaiah Landry followed with an RBI double, scoring Zack Ramppen to get the green and gold to within one run in the fifth.
  • After San Jose State added another run, pushing its lead to 4-2, Eddison Esquivel drove in Jayden Garrison with an RBI double for the Dons' third run of the game.
  • The Spartans answered late, plating three more runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to secure the 7-3 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • All starters reached base throughout the contest as eight total players recorded a base hit.
  • Rogers recorded his second home run of the season while going one-for-three at the plate with an RBI and a walk.
  • Adrian Valdez earned the start for the Dons on the mound and allowed three runs on three hits, while striking out five in four innings.
  • San Francisco pitchers faced 36 San Jose State hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out eight.

San Francisco concludes its three-game series against San Jose State at home, in a 1:00 p.m. matchup on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Benedetti Diamond.
