LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (16-13) kicks of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Championship in the second round when it takes on San Diego (11-21) at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 6, at the Orleans Arena.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
- San Francisco enters Las Vegas as the No. 7 seed with a 16-13 overall record, 9-9 in league action. The green and gold wrapped up the regular season last Saturday, Feb. 28, with a 92-80 overtime setback on the road at Santa Clara.
- Michelle Ugwah provided a spark off the bench in the finale, posting a season-high 13 points on six-of-nine shooting. She also contributed four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
- Candy Edokpaigbe delivered another strong performance with 23 points, six rebounds, four assists, four steals, and a block. In her first season with the green and gold, she averaged 17.7 points per game, securing the second-best mark in the West Coast Conference and earning her a spot on the WCC All-Conference First Team.
- Aina Cargol earned an All-Conference All-Freshman Team honorable mention after a solid debut season, averaging 9.8 points and 4.5 assists per game, ranking fifth in the West Coast Conference in assists per game. Cargol also collected two Freshman of the Week honors, emerging as one of the Dons' top newcomers this season.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
- Despite building a 13-point first-half lead, San Diego held on for a 66-62 victory over No. 10 Saint Mary's in the first round of the Credit Union 1 WCC Championship. Kyle Ray led the way for the Toreros with a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Hallie Rhodes posted a game-high 22 points on 57.1 percent (eight-of-14) shooting. Ray also connected on a half-court shot at the third-quarter buzzer, giving the Toreros the lead and momentum heading into the final quarter of play.
- Kyle Ray leads San Diego in multiple statistical categories in 26 games this season, including total points (419), points per game (16.1), free-throw percentage (.903), and minutes played (31.3). Breaking out in WCC play, Ray is averaging 17.1 points per game, third-best in the conference, behind Gonzaga's Lauren Whittaker (19.2) and San Francisco's Edokpaigbe (18.3). She is also 14th in the league in assists per game in 17 games, averaging 2.9.
- Hallie Rhodes ranks third on the team at 11.0 points per game, one of three players averaging double-digit points for San Diego this season. Rhodes registered her second of three 20+ scoring performances of the season at San Francisco on Thursday, Jan. 22, when she recorded 24 points on 42.1 percent (eight-of-19) shooting. She was also successful from the three-point line during the Dons' narrow 69-65 victory on the Hilltop, knocking down two of her four attempts from distance.
SERIES HISTORY:
- San Francisco and San Diego are set to meet for the 87th time in the history of the two programs. The Toreros, dominated in the late 2000s and early 2010s, hold a narrow 46-40 edge in the all-time series.
- The Dons' recent success over the Toreros includes victories in seven of the last nine meetings, including five straight dating back to March 2, 2024.
- San Francisco defeated San Diego twice during the 2025-26 season by a margin of just eight points. The Dons earned a gritty 59-55 win over the Toreros on January 2, before securing the season sweep with a 69-65 win on the Hilltop on January 22. Edokpaigbe led the green and gold during the two contests, averaging 20.5 points and 4.0 rebounds, while shooting 68.8 percent from the field.
