LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Powered by a 25-point outburst from Candy Edokpaigbe, the University of San Francisco women's basketball team (17-13) earned a hard-fought 61-52 victory over San Diego (11-22) in the second round of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Championship Friday afternoon at Orleans Arena.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco entered the second quarter tied with San Diego at nine after a tightly contested first period. The Dons capitalized on five Torero turnovers in the opening 10 minutes and turned those takeaways into three points on the other end of the floor.
- The Dons gained momentum in the second quarter. Taking the lead and pushing the margin to five, 22-17, following a layup from Edokpaigbe in transition at the 2:18 mark. The two teams traded baskets in the later stages of the quarter as the green and gold held a 26-22 advantage at the halftime break.
- Continuing to expand its advantage in the third quarter, San Francisco pushed its lead to double-digits, 38-26, after field goals in back-to-back possessions from Edokpaigbe and Nataša Taušová at 4:49. San Diego quickly battled back, trimming its deficit to four, 44-40, at the end of the third quarter.
- The Dons maintained their advantage at the start of the final quarter of play and led 54-46 at the 2:44 mark on an Aina Cargol jumper in the paint. The team finished the game scoring seven of the final 13 points to earn the 61-52 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Edokpaigbe paced the green and gold with a game-high 25 points, her 12th 20+ scoring performance of the season, while shooting 53.3 percent (eight-of-15) from the floor. She also had success at the free-throw line, knocking down all eight of her attempts from the charity stripe.
- Mara Neira contributed nine points in 36 minutes and registered a team-best two three-pointers. Defensively, she led the team with five steals and a block.
- Cargol recorded six points, a team-high six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
- As a team, San Francisco forced 22 San Diego turnovers, the 11th time the team has forced 20 or more turnovers in a game this season.Â
