Vinnie McGhee

Vinnie McGhee, a Bay Area native, joins the University of San Francisco men's basketball coaching staff after spending the previous three seasons on head coach Jeff Linder’s staff at Northern Colorado.  During his time at UNC he helped guide the Bears to a 47-23 overall record, including back-to-back 20 win seasons and a College Insider Tournament Championship in 2017-18.
 
Vinnie McGhee joined the Northern Colorado staff in May of 2016. In his first season on the bench at UNC, the Bears won a school record 26 games en route to a CIT Championship, the school’s first ever post season tournament championship.
 
Prior to Northern Colorado, McGhee got his first coaching job at UTEP where he served as a graduate assistant under head coach Tim Floyd. While a UTEP he handled player development, player academics, travel, scouting reports and video editing for the Miners.
 
A guard the collegiate level he scored 1,000 career points at stops at Sacramento State and Cal State Northridge.  He began his career earning Big Sky Freshman of the Year and All-Conference Honorable mention honors with the Hornets.  He still ranks in the top-10 in multiple Sacramento State record.
 
At CSUN he earned the New Meyers Sportsmanship Award in his first season playing for the Matadors, he finished his career ranked third for 3-point field goals made. He graduated CSUN with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pan African-American Studies.

After his collegiate career he also completed a season with the San Francisco Rumble in the ABA league where he averaged 22.7 points per game.

McGhee is active in basketball camps across the nation, working with NBA teams such as the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trailblazers during their summer skills camps.

A native of Oakland, Calif., he prepped at McClymonds High School where he was a two-time First Team All-Oakland Athletic League selection. In his senior season he led his team to a 28-4 overall record, a league title, and the northern California Division I championship.
