Brown enters his third year on the Dons staff serving in the role of Assistant Coach for Player Development.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to hire Owen as our Assistant Coach for Player Development," said seventh year head coach Molly Goodenbour. "He has been an intelligent, reliable and hardworking practice player as an undergraduate and has taken on greater responsibility within our program as a volunteer assistant this past season as a response to COVID. He will be an asset to our program and we look forward to his development in this newly created position."
Overall, 2022-23 will mark Brown's third season on Goodenbour's staff, and his second as the player development coach. Brown served as the volunteer assistant last season, in which he was a key piece in the Dons success developing players, leading workouts, creating scouting reports and breaking down film. Prior to this position, he spent four years heavily involved with the program, serving as a volunteer assistant during his time as an undergrad.
While serving in this role, the Dons have twice finished third in the WCC with a 20-15 record in conference play, including doubling their conference wins total from the 2019-2020 season. Notably, a pair of strong conference seasons helped USF make consecutive postseason appearances in both 2020-21 and 2021-22 as they earned back-to-back appearances in the WNIT. The Dons knocked off Houston in 2021 to advance to the second round of the tournament and then hosted Air Force at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center for the first round of the 2022 WNIT.
Before coaching at USF, Brown had spent several years strengthening his player development skills through his coaching experiences at Nike Basketball Camps, Junior Warriors, Basketball Jones and Top Flight Elite. He has worked closely with players ranging from elementary school to college, focusing on skill development and player growth.
A native of San Jose, Calif., Brown attended Archbishop Mitty High School where he played on the 2015 varsity basketball team that took second place in the CIF Division II State Playoffs.
Brown graduated from USF with a Bachelor's Degree in History and a minor in Spanish in 2019. Recently, he also earned a Master's Degree in Teaching from USF in 2020.
