Shane Tye enters his second season with the University of San Francisco indoor volleyball and beach volleyball programs during the 2019-20 school year. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach in the summer of 2019 after coming to USF for his first season on The Hilltop in the 2018-19 school year, where he was an assistant coach for both teams.
Tye works mainly with the Dons' blockers, using his experience at national powerhouse BYU during his collegiate playing time. He also works closely with the beach volleyball team, running training sessions during the spring and coaching the team at tournaments.
Tye was born and raised in Salt Lake City and attended Taylorsville High School where he was a three time all-state athlete. He joined the BYU volleyball team in 2011. Tye was a three-year player for the Cougars before graduating in 2015 with a bachelor's in exercise and wellness.
After earning his degree, he became an assistant coach at Southern Utah University for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He was also a practice coordinator at the University of Utah where he coached at one of the highest levels. Before that, Tye worked as a strength and conditioning coach and a club coach for Club V.
Although he mostly worked in Utah, he traveled across the country for eight years hosting volleyball camps while working with Gold Medal Squared. The camps were structured as clinics where Tye taught fundamentals of volleyball to all age groups.
