Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Riding high off a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Saint Mary's on Friday night, the San Francisco men's soccer team was unable to overcome two first half goals, falling to Santa Clara 2-1 at Buck Shaw Stadium Sunday evening.

Miguel Aguilar's goal in the 57th minute cut the Broncos' lead in half, and the senior forward nearly evened the score in the waning moments, but came up just short. Aguilar's first goal of the season, which came courtesy of Mauricio Diaz de Leon's corner kick, pulled the Dons (4-4-2, 2-2-0 WCC) within one. Aguilar tallied five shots on the night, and leads the Dons with 16 shots on goal on the season.

Broncos' (6-5-0, 3-1-0 WCC) forward Erik Hurtado found the back of the net twice in the first half to give Santa Clara all it would need to win its third West Coast Conference match of the season.

Hurtado, the WCC September Player of the Month, scored in the 31st and 38th minute to propell Santa Clara. Hurtado entered Sunday night ranked 12th in the nation in goals per game, and added to his total, scoring his eighth and ninth goals of the season.

The Dons held a distinct advantage in corner kicks, 7-to-4, and were outshot only 14-to-11 on the night.

Senior goalkeeper Brendan Roslund recorded two saves as only four of the Broncos' 14 shots were on target. The 2011 WCC Goalkeeper of the Year has now registered 35 saves in 10 matches, good for a stingy 1.02 goals against average.

Junior center midfielder Liam Kelly added three shots of his own, challenging Santa Clara goalkeeper Larry Jackson. Jackson, an all-league senior, tallied three saves.

The Dons take to the pitch again on Friday, Oct. 12 against Loyola Marymount at 7:00 p.m. The San Francisco Department of Athletics will proudly host Dia De Los Dons, a promotion in honor of Hispanic Heritage night.
