UniWyo Invitational
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco Dons women's volleyball team is set to open the 2012 season on Friday, Aug. 24 in the UniWyo Invitational against Eastern Washington at 10:00 a.m. PST. Hosted by the University of Wyoming, the UniWyo Invitational features 10 matches across two days between five teams.
"I'm very excited to kickoff the 2012 season in Wyoming,” women's volleyball Head Coach
Gilad Doron said. “It's going to be a great test for us to start the season and to see our team compete against quality opponents. Our team is coming off great preseason training and now it's time to go out and compete."
Seattle University and Presbyterian round out the five-team pool, and will kick off the Invitational at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
Each team will play four matches each, two on Friday and two on Saturday, Aug. 25.
"We'll be playing four games in two days in the high altitude so our conditioning will be challenged,” Doron said. “I'm confident that the Invitational will give us great insight into what our team is made out of."
The Dons play their second game on Friday at 6:00 p.m. PST against host Wyoming. The match will be streamed live via CBSSports.com, and can be viewed for $7.95. In order to watch the match, viewers must have or create a free CBSSports.com account.
San Francisco will then face Seattle at 10:00 a.m. PST on Saturday, Aug. 25 before finishing the Invitational with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Presbyterian.
San Francisco returns four starters from the 2011 team that went 16-13 overall, including
Malina Terrell and
Valentina Zaloznik who were named to the Preseason All-West Coast Conference Volleyball Team last Wednesday. The Dons also return 11 letterwinners from last season's squad that went 8-8 in WCC play.
