MORAGA, Calif. – The San Francisco men's tennis team concluded play at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships with a heartbreaking defeat in the doubles bracket Monday at Saint Mary's.

On Sunday, the tandem of Bernardo Saraiva and Nils Skajaa beat the ninth seeded team from Stanford to advance to Monday's quarterfinals. However, a missed opportunity at match point against Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke of Washington proved to be the difference in the quarterfinals. Saraiva and Skajaa's result in the match was 8-7(5) and the pair of Huskies advanced to the semifinals.

"Overall the regional was a great success with four players reaching the third round, and Bernardo and James making the round of 16 in singles," head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida said. "Nils and Bernardo unfortunately lost in the doubles quarterfinals but had a gutsy showing in their final match against tough competition."

Up next for the Dons is the final official tournament of the fall, as USF travels to Stockton, Calif., for the UOP Invitational Nov. 1-3.
