Official WCC Release
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – As the younger brother of one of baseball's top prospects, Bradley Zimmer is used to being known as Kyle Zimmer's younger brother. This week, the sophomore took another step towards being known around the conference as one of its best all-around players, earning Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.
Zimmer started every game in right field as the Dons won all four of their games this week, taking one at Nevada and sweeping a three-game series at Santa Clara.
Zimmer had a huge impact in Santa Clara as USF won each game in extra innings. On Friday, Zimmer went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Dons won 4-3 in 12 innings. USF won in 13 Saturday, 5-3, with Zimmer going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. He hit a solo home run and threw a runner out attempting to advance from first to third on a single. Sunday, Zimmer hit a two-run home run as part of a 3-for-4 day, to go with three runs and two RBIs. He also doubled and stole a base in the Dons 7-5, 10-inning win.
For the week Zimmer was 7-for-15, with five runs, five RBIs, a double, two home runs, five walks (three intentional), a stolen base, two sacrifice flies and an outfield assist.
Jason Mahood was the last Don to win conference Player of the Week honors, in May 2011.
