BERKELEY, Calif. – After three straight extra-inning games the University of San Francisco Diamond Dons wasted no time getting on the scoreboard Tuesday, scoring four times in the first inning en route to a 11-5 win at California. The Dons increased their win streak to seven games, moving to 21-15 on the season and splitting the season series with the Golden Bears (16-20).
 
Justin Maffei hit the fifth pitch he saw from Cal starter Keaton Siomkin over the wall in left-center field to lead off the game, the third time Maffei has started a game with a home run in his USF career. Jason Mahood and Bradley Zimmer followed with base hits before Zachary Turner crushed a three-run home run to left-center to give the Dons a lead they would not relinquish.
 
USF starter Thomas Cox, who entered the game with a 1.10 ERA, was hit hard for the first time this season, allowing four runs in 2.2 innings of work. The USF bullpen relieved Cox and shut the door, allowing just one run in 6.1 innings and striking out seven.
 
The Dons clung to a one-run lead after seven and looked headed for another close game, until Ryan Matranga hit a solo home run with one out in the eighth that hooked around the left field foul pole. The Dons went on to score four more runs in the eighth to extend the lead to 11-5.
 
Ben Graff earned the win, improving to 2-1 on the season. Siomkin (1-2) took the loss for the Bears.
 
The Dons top-four hitters had productive games. Maffei was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Jason Mahood was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Zimmer was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Turner was 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.
 
The three home runs for USF was a season-high, eclipsing the previous high of two.
 
The Dons have won seven in a row, 10 of 11, and 14 of 18.
