Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO – Loyola Marymount starter Patrick McGrath was dominant, holding the University of San Francisco Diamond Dons hitless into the seventh inning, as the Lions won the rubber game of the series, 5-3, Sunday at Benedetti Diamond. USF (22-17, 9-6 WCC) has lost two straight after an eight-game win streak, while LMU improves to 20-19 (9-6 WCC).

LMU got on the board early, scoring a pair in the third and adding three more in the fifth.

Zachary Turner, starting at first base for the first time this season, broke up the no-hitter and the shutout in the seventh, with a two-out, solo home run to right-center field. The long ball was Turner's fifth of the season.

The Dons mounted a ninth-inning rally when pinch-hitter
Brendan Hendriks and centerfielder
Justin Maffei singled to lead off the inning. After a fielder's choice and pop up, Turner's ground ball to short induced a wide throw that allowed two runs to score. Lions closer Bret Dahlson retired
Derek Atkinson three pitches later to end the game.

The Dons had won four straight series coming into the weekend. They will host Sacramento State Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
