FORT WORTH, Texas – Haden Hinkle lost for the first time this season and the University of San Francisco Diamond Dons were shut down by TCU starter Preston Morrison Friday in a 4-1 loss to the Horned Frogs.

The Dons (14-15) had won three straight to even their record at .500 after beating Sacramento State Wednesday. USF's bats were unable to provide run support in Hinkle's (6-1) first start of the season, who came into the game leading the West Coast Conference in wins, ERA and batting average against.

Morrison scattered three hits, allowing one run on a Bradley Zimmer home run in the seventh inning, his fifth of the season. Singles from second baseman Jason Mahood and leftfielder Harrison Bruce accounted for the rest of the Dons offensive production. Morrison came into the game with a 1.23 ERA and a 4-1 record.

“We got off to a rough start today and did not execute pitches, plays of swings,” said USF Head Coach Nino Giarratano. “Their starter was very good, and we need to get more guys in scoring position. We'll bounce back tomorrow.”

USF's Alex Balog will oppose TCU's Brandon Finnegan tomorrow.

First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. PDT.
