Watch more Behind the MaskA national champion and All-American, University of San Francisco women's golf coach Sarah Huarte Glynn epitomizes success on the course, both as a learner and as a leader.
Â
Inducted into the Cal Sports Hall of Fame in her first year to be eligible for the accolade, Glynn reflected on two of the lessons that she learned while a collegian – success doesn't come without sacrifice, and embrace expectations instead of fearing them. These lessons are just some of the nuggets of wisdom she passes along to the USF women's golf team.
Â
"Sarah Huarte is elite in so many ways, and in 03-04 Sarah was the cream of the crop," said Huarte's collegiate coach at Cal, Nancy McDaniel. "She came in and played an amazing year, won tournaments, was elected for the Curtis Cup, was on the world amateur team, and led us all the way down to the national championship and a fourth place finish."
Â
Glynn looks back on her time as a part of a team, with the sum of the parts greater than the individual pieces.
Â
"One of the things I think that was special about that team was that we didn't have any superstars, but I think that Nancy brought out the best in us," explained Glynn. "That's one of the things I think that I love about coaching and that I can do here at USF. I can get good players here, and I can bring out the best in them and make them better."
Â
The Dons, under the tutelage of Glynn, have posted four top-10 tournament finishes in the fall tournament slate, including two second-place efforts.
