PORTLAND, Ore.—Sheldon Lee's complete game shutout was the highlight of two stellar performances from the Dons on the mound as they split their West Coast Conference double header against Portland on Saturday.

San Francisco (20-22, 8-13 WCC) continued its string of solid pitching and this time got it from two different starters. Dons starters Lee and Christian Cecilio both pitched into the ninth inning and gave the Dons a chance to sweep the double header.

Cecilio went 8.1 innings and allowed three runs on three hits but was saddled with the 3-2 loss. Lee went the distance while limiting Portland to four hits and picked up the 7-0 win in the second game of the day.

GAME 1 – Portland 3, San Francisco 2

Portland got on the board first when, with Chet Thompson at second, Turner Gill ripped a single to center to score Thompson and give the Pilots a 1-0 lead.

The Dons responded in the fifth. Zack Turner walked to start the inning and was moved over to third on a double by Brendan Hendriks to set up runners at second and third with no outs. Ryan Matranga came up with one out and grounded out to short, which brought home Turner and tied the game 1-1.

With the score still tied in the ninth, the Dons got a leadoff single from Bradley Zimmer and it was followed by a single from Derek Atkinson which moved Zimmer to third. That brought up Turner who flew out to right to bring home Zimmer and give the Dons a 2-1 lead.

Cecilio continued his stellar pitching and pitched into the ninth inning with a lead. His last three outings have lasted at least 7.2 innings and he has allowed four or fewer runs in each start.

But in the ninth, Portland tied the game 2-2 and had runners at first and second with one out for Ryan Barr, who singled to center to drive home the game-winning run.

GAME 2 – San Francisco 7, Portland 0

The Dons struck in the third inning. With runners at the corners and one out, Turner grounded to second and Portland attempted to turn the double play but the throw from second got passed first baseman Kevin Wade and allowed Nico Giarratano to score to advance Turner to second.

One batter later, Hendriks doubled to right center to score Turner and give the Dons a 2-0 lead. It was one of two RBI in the game for Hendriks.

Lee took care of the rest. He scattered four hits and three walks over his nine innings as he threw his first career complete game shutout. Lee, too, has continued a strong stretch where he has not allowed an earned run in any of his five starts this season (27 innings pitched).

The junior left hander got into trouble in the bottom of the third when Portland loaded the bases with one out but he induced a double play ball from Davis Tominaga to get out of the inning unscathed.

The Dons tacked on single runs in the sixth on a RBI single from Bob Cruikshank and seventh on a double play fielder's choice by Turner to take a 4-0 lead.

Cruikshank was one of four Dons with at least two hits. Zimmer led the Dons by going 3-for-4 on the afternoon.

Cody Snider pinch hit in the ninth inning and picked up his first career RBI on a sacrifice fly to center.
