LOS ANGELES—The Dons had a chance to get the sweep over Loyola Marymount but a late-inning balk forced in the go-ahead run as they fell 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

In the eighth inning, the Dons had a chance to break the tie. Ryan Matranga was hit to put two runners on with two down which brought Matt Sinatro to the plate but he grounded into an inning-ending fielder's choice.

In the bottom half of the inning, David Edwards doubled and stole third with two down. Houston Hibberd then balked to force in Edwards and gave LMU the 5-4 lead.

Despite the loss, San Francisco (15-15, 5-7 WCC) was able to take the series from LMU after winning the first two games of the series. USF will return home to take on San Jose State on Tuesday and WCC newcomer Pacific next weekend.

Much like in the first two games of the series, the Dons jumped out to an early lead. With Zack Turner aboard in the second inning, Brendan Hendriks double to left to put the Dons up 1-0. Hendriks scored on an error and four batters later Bradley Zimmer ripped a two-run triple to center and the Dons took a four-run lead.

Zimmer extended his hit streak to 18 games with that triple. He was last held hitless on Mar. 7 against Arkansas.

LMU got even in the fifth. With two runners on, David Fletcher doubled down the left field line to score both and bring the Lions within three. A suicide squeeze and a single brought home two more and tied the game 5-5.
