Game #18
San Francisco Dons (6-10-1, 4-1-1) vs. Loyola Marymount Lions (8-9-0, 3-3-0)
Saturday, Nov. 14, 6 p.m. | Negoesco Stadium | San Francisco, Calif.
Series Record: LMU leads, 27-12-2
Last Meeting: LMU won, 2-1 (2OT); Nov. 7, 2014 at LMU

COMING UP: The Dons (6-10-1, 4-1-1) close out the regular season at home this Saturday with a 6 p.m. kickoff against Loyola Marymount. USF's two seniors – Jesus Del Toro and Kevin Gould - will be honored before the game, which will have huge WCC championship implications. The Dons have a chance to take home the WCC crown for the first time since 2008, but they'll need a win over LMU and a San Diego loss to Santa Clara to make it happen. The Toreros play at Santa Clara at 7 p.m. on Saturday, so USF will have to take care of business on their end and then await the result of the USD-SCU match.
LAST TIME OUT: The Dons kept their WCC title hopes afloat by working a scoreless draw at San Diego this past week. Freshman keeper Andre Glasnovic made five saves in goal to ensure the clean sheet despite a ferocious San Diego attack that saw the Toreros outshoot USF 24-8, while holding a 15-1 advantage over the Dons in corner kicks. After being outshot 12-2 in the first half, the Dons picked up their own offense and closed that gap to 7-6 in the second frame.
SNAPSHOT: LMU (8-9-0, 3-3-0)
The Lions come into the weekend out of the WCC race in fifth place...LMU won both meetings against the Dons last season…USF hasn't defeated LMU since a 2-0 home win on Oct. 12, 2012…the Lions are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to Santa Clara last week…they are being outscored 23-20 on the year and outshot 220-197…LMU is second in the WCC in points (66)…they lead the conference in shutouts (7)…Alvaro Madrigal leads the WCC in points with 20 (8 goals / 4 assists)…goalkeeper Paul Blanchette has the second-best save percentage in the WCC (.781).
THE WEEK'S BEST
Andre Glasnovic earned his first career WCC Player of the Week honor this past week after helping preserve the clean sheet by recording five saves in the Dons' 0-0 draw at San Diego. He joined David Garrett (Nov. 2) as the other Don to take home the honor this season. It was also Garrett's first-career player of the week nod.
WCC TITLE HUNT
The Dons need a win over LMU and a San Diego loss at Santa Clara to position themselves for a potential WCC title. If that happens, then there would be a three-way tie for first place between USF, San Diego, and Santa Clara, each with 16 points. WCC tiebreaker rules stipulate that the first tiebreak criterion would be head-to-head results against the other tied opponents; in that case USF would be 1-0-1 versus Santa Clara and San Diego this season, while San Diego would be 0-1-1, and SCU 1-1-0 – therefore USF would be WCC champions in this scenario.
SENIOR SENDOFF
USF's two seniors will be recognized prior to kickoff on Saturday. Jesus Del Toro (Novato, Calif. / San Marin HS) has made 18 starts in 55 career games, adding six goals and two assists. Kevin Gould (San Clemente, Calif. / San Clemente HS) has started 57 of 69 career matches, with three assists and a 2012 WCC All-Freshman award to his credit.
TWICE IS NICE
David Garrett enjoyed his first career multi-goal game in a 3-1 win at Portland (Nov. 1); he scored in the 25th and 27th minutes. Garrett became the third Don to record a multi-score performance this season after Davi Ramos and Aaron Lombardi each accomplished the feat in a 5-0 win over La Salle on Sept. 6. It was the second time Lombardi had scored two goals in a game (Oct. 9, 2014 vs. Gonzaga). The last time the Dons had three different players record multi-goal games was in 2012.
A WHOLE DIFFERENT SEASON
After a brutal nonconference schedule that featured seven top-100 RPI opponents, the Dons went 2-9-0 and were outscored 28-11 during nonconference play, but have since gone 4-1-1 and outscored opponents 11-4 in WCC action.
HITTING THE BOOKS
Davi Ramos represented the Dons on the WCC All-Academic squad. Ramos is a marketing major with a 3.60 GPA; he's also third on the team with eight points (3 goals / 2 assists). Christian De Luna (international business, 3.37) and David Garrett (international studies, 3.25) received honorable mention recognition.
ON THE WORLD STAGE
Freshman defender Hunter Ashworth missed five games to join the New Zealand U-17 national team in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Santiago, Chile, where New Zealand went 1-2-1 in group play. Ashworth, who played in three matches, making one start, was one of two players on the squad who hail from countries outside of New Zealand.
