USF Completes Play at Princeville

PRINCEVILLE, Kauai -- USF wrapped up play at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational where the Dons tied for 10th in a 17-team field.
The Dons shot a final round score of 290 (+2) to finish at 866 for the 54-hole event, 42-strokes behind first place Alabama, which captured the team title with a 40-under score of 824. The 12th-ranked Crimson Tide shot a 14-under score of 274 on Wednesday to fend off No. 3 Wake Forest, which finished at 35-under 829. Alabama-Birmingham finished third at 836 (-28) while Pepperdine secured fourth place at 844 (-20).
Cameron Young of Wake Forest shot a final round 67 to claim medalist honors at 15-under 201, good for a two stroke victory over Tom Lovelady of Alabama. Roy Cootes of Pepperdine, who held the 36-hole lead, faded to 14th place following a final round 78.
The Dons were the hottest team on the Makai Course for a time on Wednesday, getting as low as 10-under behind the strong play of Sebastian Crookall-Nixon, Max Alcorn and Jalen Griffin. However, the second nine holes weren't as kind to USF slipped into a 10th place tie with McNeese State.
Sebastian Crookall-Nixon was USF's highest finisher, tying for 22nd place at 2-under 214. The senior got off to a blazing start with birdies on four of his first six holes and made the turn at 5-under. A back nine 41 left the Englishman even for the day.
Max Alcorn tied for 28th with an even par score of 216. Alcorn was 3-under through his first 12 holes but a quadruple bogey on the par-4 fourth his (his 13th) followed by a bogey on the next hole led to a backside 40.
Jalen Griffin turned in the team's lowest round of the day, as a final round 69 jumped the sophomore 21 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 28th place at even par 216. As his teammates struggled on the back nine, Griffin birdied three of his last seven holes to close with a 69.
Henry Chung tied for 53rd at 5-over 221 after posting a 75 while freshman Storm Lee finished 84th at 234 (+18) following a final round 83.
