USF Claims Win Against UC Davis


San Francisco, Calif.- Through the help of Thomas Takemoto who closed out both singles and doubles points for the Dons, USF men's tennis served up an important non-conference win against No. 70 UC Davis, 4-3, at the Olympic Club.
 
"Takemoto played the best tiebreaker of his college career with aggressive clutch shots," said head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "The Aggies did a great job and we really had to earn this win"
 
After UC Davis took  points in No.3 and No. 6 singles changing the score to 3-2 and the Dons ahead only by one, it was Takemoto who clinched the win. After winning his first set 6-0, Takemoto used his skillset to get into a tiebreaker against Bryce McKelvie, winning the set 7-6 (1) and solidifying the win for the Dons.
 
The nationally ranked, No. 31 Bernardo Saraiva and Nils Skajaa defeated Alec Adamson and Adam Levie, 6-2. After UC Davis took second doubles, Vasco Valverde and Thomas Takemoto claimed the doubles point with a 6-3 win against James Wade and Tommy Lam.
 
Saraiva picked up the first win at number one against Alec Adamson in a quick two sets 6-2, 6-1. Valverde followed suit as he defeated Jesse Ross, 6-2, 6-1 giving the Dons a 3-0 lead.. 
 
After UC Davis took  points in No.3 and No. 6 singles., it was Takemoto who clinched the win. After winning his first set6 6-0, Takemoto used his skillset to get into a tiebreaker against Bryce McKelvie, which he did and won the second set 7-6 (1), claiming the win for USF.
 
"This has to be the best and strongest UC Davis team to compete since they entered Division 1 competition," said director of tennis Peter Bartlett. "After UC Davis defeating three teams in our conference, this was a big win for us."
 
The Dons return to match play tomorrow at 1 P.M. against UC Santa Barbara at the Cal Club.
