SAN FRANCISCO – USF men's tennis team dominated in play this afternoon as they defeated Gonzaga 4-0 at the Olympic Club.

"Very proud of the way the guys stayed tough today and got the doubles and singles in dominating fashion against a solid Gonzaga team," said head coach
Pablo Pires de Almeida.

USF stands at a 12-8 overall record and are now 5-3 for WCC competition. USF will head to WCC tournament play with a winning record.

The Dons got off to a solid start at No. 1 and 3 doubles where they took the lead against the Bulldogs. The duo of
Bernardo Saraiva and
Nils Skajaa downed Vladimir Mijatovic and Hayden Smith 6-0.

Thomas Takemoto and
Vasco Valverde clinched the doubles point for USF with a 6-2 win against Gonzaga's No. 3 pair Joey Brandt and Sergio Chip.

Santiago was the first off the court and had set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Joey Brandt.
James Tallman came from a break down to win his first set 6-3 and took the second set 6-2 at third singles against Hayden Smith.Â

After being down his first set 5-2, Valverde came back to win the first set 7-5 and dominated in his second set, 6-1, against Sergio Chip and solidified the victory for USF.

"Now we look to have a great senior day tomorrow," said Pires de Almeida.

USF will have host its Senior Day tomorrow at the Cal Club against Portland at 1 p.m.
