PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - The Dons shaved five strokes of its opening round score and managed to climb four spots up the leaderboard into sixth place at the Saint Mary's Invitational, being held at the Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

Behind solid rounds turned in by Sebastian Crookall-Nixon and Henry Chung, the Dons posted a second round score of 290 and now sit at 585 (+17) at the 36-hole mark of the tournament.

The Dons are 19 strokes back of second round leader San Diego State, after the Aztecs shot a 5-under 279 on Tuesday to climb over Saint Mary's into the top spot on the leaderboard. At 566 (-2), San Diego State will take a seven shot lead into Wednesday's final round.

Crookall-Nixon turned in a brilliant second round 68 to climb into a tie for third place among the individuals. At 1-under 141 at the 36-hole mark, Crookall-Nixon is just one stroke behind leaders Jonathan De Los Reyes and Pavan Sagoo of Saint Mary's, who are tied atop the leaderboard at -2 140. All told, 12 golders are within three strokes of the lead heading into Wednesday's final round.

Crookall-Nixon played his first nine holes 3-under par and was even par on the backside en route to a second round 68. He will be aiming for his first collegiate title on Wednesday morning.

Chung made a nice move up the leaderboard on Tuesday, as the sophomore fired a 1-under 70 to gain a share of 13th place. Chung had two birdies and just one bogey on a very consistent Tuesday card.

Storm Lee dropped into a tie for 28th place after a second round 76 left him 5-over 147 at the 36-hole mark of the tournament. The freshman, who opened the tournament with an even par 71, had six bogeys and just one bogey on his card.

Max Alcorn is tied for 61st at 156 (+12) following a second round 76 while sophomore Jalen Griffin is tied for 66th at 155 following his 78 on Tuesday.

The Saint Mary's Invitational will wrap up with the final 18 holes on Wednesday at Poppy Hills.
