Despite monster games from Tyna Adamcikova and Emily Reed paired with a wild third set victory, the Dons fell to Pepperdine in Malibu 3-1. This was the Dons final road game of the season and they managed to pick up their first conference set win on the road.
After falling behind two sets to none, it was going to take a big effort to take the third. Adamcikova was up to the task recording 11 of her game-high 25 kills in the third set alone. A back-and-forth affair saw 23 ties and eight lead changes as the score would find it's way into the thirties for USF.Â
An Adamcikova kill would tie the third set at 28 before Emily Reed gave USF the lead 29-28 with a kill of her own. Hannah Frohling (17 kills) would pull one back for Pepperdine (12-16, 6-10 WCC) but the lead would swing back to the Dons after an attack error. The final point would come from none other than Adamcikova as she put it away to cap the marathon set 31-29. Pepperdine would find their feet and finish off the Dons (4-24, 0-15 WCC) in the fourth set.
Adamcikova finished with a double-double registering 25 kills and 12 digs. Reed chipped in a big-time double-double of her own with 10 kills and a game-high, career-high 16 digs. Shannon Levinson led the game and set a new career-high with 24 assists. Trish Koutsoukos was right behind her with 22 assists (second highest in the game). Carly Lowry and Marjolijn Oskam each had six kills (a career-high for both) while Oskam added four block assists. Kate Ashman also had four block assists while Nora Buvarp Lavik had four kills and Kim Gutierrez added 15 digs.
Next up for the Dons is a monstrous week back home against the two WCC powerhouses. First up is a match against BYU, Thursday at 7 p.m. followed by a tie with San Diego on Saturday at 1 p.m.
