Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Dons Fall to Tigers on Senior Day

It was the season finale for the Dons as they hosted Pacific inside War Memorial at the Sobrato Center Tuesday night. The team honored senior outside hitter Emily Reed before the match as she was joined by her parents, Kim and Gerry Reed, her brothers Will and Matt Reed and her uncle Alan Armstrong. Reed had a strong game in her final appearance as she tied for the team lead in kills with six while also chipping in on three blocks.

Pacific (15-15, 9-9 WCC) was able to control most of the match sweeping USF on the night. The Dons certainly had great spurts, but they were unable to make them last. One of the best stints of the game for USF came in the second set when Nora Buvarp Lavik had a kill to bring the Dons within four points at 12-8. That was followed by a big block by Buvarp Lavik and Kate Ashman to make it 12-9. Then to cap the run Tyna Adamcikova blasted one home to make it 12-10 forcing Pacific to call time out. The Tigers would come out of the break and control the rest of the set.

The Dons (4-27, 0-18 WCC) had a similar run in the opening set when a Marjolijn Oskam block was followed by a stuff from Buvarp Lavik and Adamcikova and the run was finished by an Adamcikova rocket. Pacific was able to gather themselves much like the second set and go on a large run to put things out of reach.

Adamcikova tied Reed for the team-lead in kills with six. Shannon Levinson led the Dons in assists with eight and Kim Gutierrez led in digs with 11. Oskam had three solo blocks and five block assists in the match.

While the night and the season weren't what head coach Vicki Brown envisioned when she took over the job this year, she has her eyes set on the future.

"From where we were on the first day of the preseason; we have improved leaps and bounds from where we started," Brown explained. "Leaving this season we have proven we can do big things when we put it all together. We also understand that it is a challenge and teams will fight back within our conference. I think we learned a lot of good lessons and we won a lot of the challenges that we set for ourselves. Now it's about going into the spring and using that to really motivate us and get connected and work on the basics of our techniques."
