MSOC | Dons return home to take on WCC Rivals Saint Mary's

Game Notes (PDF)

AT A GLANCE:

SAN FRANCISCO – After last Friday's contest with Pacific was postponed due to the fires in the North Bay, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team resumes its schedule with their second conference game of the season against Saint Mary's on Saturday.

In their last match, USF (3-8-0, 0-1-0 WCC) took a short trip to square off against another Bay Area rival, Santa Clara. The match started brightly for the Dons with an early goal by Matt Orr, but the Broncos responded with three unanswered goals, and it ended 3-1 to Santa Clara.

Leading the Dons coming into this meeting with the Gaels is senior midfielder Leon Schwarzer, who is tops in two categories on the team; points and assists. So far, Schwarzer has accumulated 13 points and five assists over the course of the season, and his assist total is tied for 53rd in the NCAA. USF will hope the senior builds on those statistics on Saturday.

The Gael's come into this match with a record of 4-5-3, 1-1-0 WCC, and will be playing their fourth consecutive road match when they take on the Dons on Saturday. Last weekend Saint Mary's traveled to Santa Clara to take on the Broncos, and were beaten in a high scoring match, 4-2. Before the match against the Broncos, St. Mary's battled out a 1-0 win over Gonzaga in their conference play opener.

In their last home match, USF beat San José State 5-2 and the Dons will look to continue that home form and notch their first WCC win of the season when they take on the Gaels. The next home match will be on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. against Loyola Marymount.
