MSOC | Three First Half Goals Propels Dons To Victory

THE RUNDOWN
SAN FRANCISCO – An active opening half by the University of San Francisco men's soccer team saw the Dons go into the intermission up three, USF was able to overcome two second half penalty kick's by visiting Saint Mary's, giving the Dons a huge 4-2 victory on Saturday evening at Negoesco Field.
 
USF (4-8-0, 1-1-0 WCC) lit up the scoreboard first, when Santiago Digiuseppe scored the first of his two goals on the evening in the 27th minute.  Digiuseppe took a pass from Aaron Lombardi from inside the box and beat the Saint Mary's keeper to his left. 
 
The Dons scored two more times late in the first period, the second goal coming from Bryce Kaminski when his header off the feed from Manny Padilla beat the Gael's keeper in the 40th minute.  USF was gifted a third goal when SMC scored an own goal two minutes before halftime.
 
After the intermission, Saint Mary's (4-7-3, 1-2-0 WCC) Stephen Dougherty scored on a penalty kick in the 69th.  The Dons responded with a PK of their own, the second goal of the night and fifth of the season by Digiuseppe, this one coming in the 73rd minute. 
 
Saint Mary's scored a second goal in the 73rd minute when the Dons' keeper Ruben Stuiver sent a Gael PK away.  SMC got the score anyway when Joseph Restani came up with the loose ball and send the ball to the back of the net.

  • In a tightly contested contest, the Dons were outshot by the Gaels 18-11, SMC took 14 second half shots.
  • USF and SMC both had seven corner kicks each, SMC tallied six in the second half, while USF had four.
  • The two goals by Digiuseppe is his first multi-goal game of his career.
  • Stuiver improves to 4-7-0 after tallying six saves – five in the second half, including a stop against a PK.
