Next up in our getting to know series is
Mabel Wong. Wong, a junior from Oakdale High School in Oakdale, Calif., has appeared in 12 career events, eight as a freshman and four as a sophomore. In her sophomore campaign, she posted a stroke average of 76.3. In her freshman season, she finished tied for fourth at the Sacramento State Invitational.
"Mabel had surgery this past August so I have actually never seen her play golf!" said head coach
Sara Doell. "I know from her past experiences and numbers that she is extremely talented and I look forward to having her back on the course soon. She has worked very hard in the gym and with our athletic performance staff to recover from her surgery and we hope she will be playing again this spring. I am thankful that Mabel is only a junior so we will have a full year of her competing for us next year as a senior!"
Wong played just one year of high school golf and was one of the top junior players in Northern California as a prep. She posted three wins on the Junior Golf Association of Northern California Tour in 2013. She took first in the prestigious JGANC/NCGA Nor Cal Players Championship on Rancho Canada's East Course in Carmel that year.

Mabel Wong: I started golfing at the age of 10. The first time I touched a golf club is
when my mother took my brother and I to The First Tee of Modesto and we were told we were a natural at it so we continued golf and till this day still go there often to volunteer Coach younger children the golf and life skills through the game.
2. What was the deciding factor in why you came to USF to play on the women's golf team?
MW: I loved the environment of the campus and athletic department. Nothing beats being in a city like San Francisco. Also, the small classes are amazing because you can be on top of your studies and work with professors.
