WGOLF | Get to Know Kimberly Liu

Next up in our getting to know series is Kimberly Liu.  Liu a native of Dublin, Calif., has appeared in eight career events.  Earlier this year she posted her best career finish, coming in 34th at the UC Irvine Invitational.  She has 25 career birdies, seven coming this fall.

"If I had only one word to describe Kim it would be fighter!" said head coach Sara Doell. "She works hard, plays hard and does not accept mediocrity. Kim missed the starting lineup for the first event by one stroke and that did not deter her- she worked so hard on her game and earned a spot for the last event in the fall at UC-Irvine. She played excellent there finishing second on the team with scores of 73-77-79 on a pretty difficult golf course. With only one semester left in her college career, I know that she will work hard to continue to represent our team!"

She appeared in four events in her junior campaign, and posted a stroke average of 79.2. As a prep, she attended Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, Calif., where she was a four-time all East Bay Athletic League first team selection.  She was the first female golfer to be named the EBAL's most valuable player for three consecutive seasons, and was just the second female golfer from Northern California to qualify for the CIF State Championships four-straight seasons.

GOLF:
1. When did you start playing golf and how?
Kimberly Liu: I started playing when I was 10. My mom brought my brother and I back to the rural part of Taiwan where there's nothing to do so we got super bored and drove her nuts for a couple of weeks. She finally gave in and sent us to golf lessons to get us out of the house. My brother started first, I came next, then my mom and dad tried picking it up so we could make it a family sport. Eventually they all stopped, my brother golfs a hole-in- one and then decided to quit right after. I was the only one to keep going.

2. What was the deciding factor in why you came to USF to play on the women's golf team?
KL: The City, the team, and how USF is a smaller private school.

3. What is your favorite memory of being a Don?
KL: Too many to choose from, just a lot of fun nights with friends and teammates during travel.

4. Who is the funniest member of the team and why?
KL: Vanessa because she has these little one-liners that she says to herself. Usually no one hears them but when we do they're hilarious.

5. Best USF golf travel story?
KL: Not the best just a funny moment when traveling with Ayaka Suzuki (2017 grad) we came back to the hotel from a long day on the course and the maids had made my bed, but didn't make hers. The covers and even the sheets were messed up and on the floor; she was so mad and threw everything off the bed. Then you see me on the side laughing so hard that I was crying. It was kind of the totality of the situation that made that moment so funny.

6. Your dream foursome would include who?
KL: Noah Montgomery (golf coach), Paige Lee (longtime friend and currently pro
golfer), and Ryan Han (boyfriend and plays for UC Davis Men's golf team).

7. What is your favorite golf course?
KL: MONTEREY PENINSULA COUNTRY CLUB. OLD DUNES. HANDS DOWN.

8. Have you ever had a hole-in- one? If yes, give us the details!
