Dons Set To Battle Cross-Bay Rival

The University of San Francisco men's basketball will travel east on the Bay Bridge to take on longtime rival Saint Mary's on Thursday night in McKeon Pavilion.  Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPNU with Roxy Bernstein and Caron Butler on the call.  Fans can also turn into Pat Olson and Coach Jim Brovelli as they call the action live on our radio partner 95.7 The Game.

TOMORROW'S GAME
The Dons look to play spoiler as they square off against a Gaels team that is riding a 16-game winning streak, longest in program history, and ranked 13th in the nation in the AP poll.  This is the second-straight game the Dons have played a team in the top-15, after battling Gonzaga on the road last Saturday.  The Dons are averaging 69.4 points per game while shooting 41.8 percent, their opponents are averaging 67.9 points per game and 43.3 percent from the field.  Saint Mary's enters tomorrow's contest with an overall record of 21-2 and are a perfect 10-0 in the WCC.  They are fresh off home wins over BYU and Portland.  As a team, the Gaels are averaging 79.5 points per contest and are leading the nation in field goal percentage, shooting 53.3 percent from the floor.  Their opponents are averaging 65.2 points per game and are shooting 44.7 percent from the floor.  SMC is led by center Jock Landale who is averaging 22.1 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per contest.
 
THE SERIES
The Dons and Gaels have squared off 178 times with the Dons owning a 99-79 advantage in the series.  The teams first met in the 1930-31 season with the Dons coming away with a 37-23 win.  Recent history has belonged to the Gaels however, with SMC winning six-straight and 23 of the last 24 match ups.  The last time these two teams faced each other was on Jan. 26, 2017 when SMC defeated the Dons 66-46 at McKeon Pavilion.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Dons stay in the Bay, but will travel south down to renew their rivalry with Santa Clara.  The Dons and Broncos will tip of at 8:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on NBC Sports California with Barry Tompkins and Dan Belluomini on the call.
