RIVERSIDE, Calif. – After 36 holes the University of San Francisco women's golf team sits tied for eighth at 26-over after firing rounds of 302-300 for a day one total of 612 at the par-72 Oak Quarry Golf Club, site of the Battle of the Rock Invitational hosted by UC Riverside.
The Dons were led by senior
Vanessa Ha who is currently tied for ninth after shooting a 1-over 145 on the day. She opened the tournament with a 3-over 75 in the opening round before carding a 2-under 70 in the second round. In the final 18 holes she finished with one bogey and five birdies.
Following Ha, the Dons all finished within 13 places of each other.
Emily Laskin finished tied for 35
th with an 8-over 152. She opened the tournament on fire, posting par-par-birdie-birdie in her first four holes.
Kimberly Liu finished five spots behind in 40
th after she carded a 9-over 153. In her second tournament of the season, she tallied three birdies and was even par on the par-4 holes for the day.
After carding back-to-back rounds of 77,
Samantha Gong sits in 43
rd with a 10-over 154. Gong finished the day with eight birdies, four in each round.
Joan Soewondo is tied for 48
th after recording an 11-over 155 through 36 holes. She finished the afternoon with three birdies.
COACHES QUOTE
"The team represented the Don's very well today," said head coach Sara Doell. "While we certainly left some shots out on the course, it was a solid start to the spring. In usual fashion, Vanessa led us with a 75-70 and sits tied for ninth. We had a great meeting tonight and the team feels excited about tomorrow and the opportunity to move up the leaderboard."
DAY ONE NOTES
- The Dons finished the first 36th holes 14th on Par-3's with an average score of 3.58 going 23-over.
- In the Par-4's the Dons finished with an average score of 4.17 and were +17, which was second overall.
- USF carded 101 pars and 25 birdies on the day. Gong's eight birdies is seventh most through 36 holes.

The Dons return to Oak Quarry Golf Club for the final round of the Battle of the Rock Invitational tomorrow with the completion of the tournament. They will tee off tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
